Enchanted Tree Greetings Card - Rowan
£2.20
A rowan tree stands in a magical landscape.
Reproduced from original paintings by Peter Pracownik, one of England's most popular pagan and fantasy artists, these beautiful cards also include information about the folklore and traditions of the trees.
It is blank inside where you'd write your own message, but there is a short informative piece about the symbolism of the tree printed at the bottom of the left-hand page as you have the card open in front of you. The text inside this card reads:"The Rowan (Celtic name Luis) is a tree of magical protection long used to ward off enchantment. Its flame red berries bear the sign of the pentagram, the protective five-pointed star."
You can see pictures of how the text is laid out inside the card, and also of the decorative envelope that comes with it if you look at the second and third pictures on the image carousel.
This card comes cellophane wrapped and is 120mm x 170mm (6 and 3/4 inches x 4 and 3/4 inches).
Rowan is one of the trees associated with Saint Brighid, the Celtic patroness of the arts, healing, smithing, spinning and weaving. Spindles and spinning wheels were traditionally made of Rowan in Scotland and Ireland. Rowan trees planted near stone circles in Scotland were especially powerful. Scottish Fairies were said to hold their celebrations within stone circles protected by Rowan trees. Modern interpretations of the Celtic Ogham place Rowan, called Luis, as the sacred tree of February.
