Enchanted Tree Greetings Card - Willow
£2.20
A priestess figure with a lunar head-dress sits before a willow tree.
Reproduced from original paintings by Peter Pracownik, one of England's most popular pagan and fantasy artists, these beautiful cards also include information about the folklore and traditions of the trees.
It is blank inside where you'd write your own message, but there is a short informative piece about the symbolism of the tree printed at the bottom of the left-hand page as you have the card open in front of you. The text inside this card reads: "The Willow (Celtic name Saille) was known in Celtic Ireland as one of the Seven Noble Trees of the land. It is closely associated with the moon and great healing."
You can see pictures of how the text is laid out inside the card, and also of the decorative envelope that comes with it if you look at the second and third pictures on the image carousel.
This card comes cellophane wrapped and is 120mm x 170mm (6 and 3/4 inches x 4 and 3/4 inches).
Most willow species grow and thrive close to water or in damp places, and this theme is reflected in the legends and magic associated with these trees. The moon too recurs as a theme, the movement of water being intimately bound up with and affected by the moon. For example, Hecate the powerful Greek goddess of the moon and of willow, also taught sorcery and witchcraft, and was 'a mighty and formidable divinity of the Underworld'.
