Odin's Ravens Pendant Necklace
£14.95
Part of our range of pendants inspired by mystical and magical symbolism.
The ravens on this Viking style pendant are Huginn and Muninn, the ravens of the god Odin. Their names in English mean Thought and Memory. Each day they would fly around the world gathering information, and each night they would return to share it with Odin.
The pendant is beautifully cast with very fine detail.
Made from nickel-free pewter, the necklace comes strung on a 50cm long black cord.
The pendant measures 35mm across x 45mm high (the bail is on the back).
It has been suggested that the symbolism of the relationship between Odin and the ravens is one of symbiosis. In such a symbiotic relationship, Odin, though he is the father of all humans and gods, is imperfect by himself. As a separate entity he lacks depth perception (being one-eyed) and he is apparently also uninformed and forgetful. But his weaknesses are compensated by his ravens, Hugin (mind) and Munin (memory) who are part of him. They perch on his shoulders and reconnoiter to the ends of the earth each day to return in the evening and tell him the news.
