Bronze Viking Knit Necklace with Purple Glass Bead and Silver Nuggets
£24.50
A hand-made Viking Knit necklace made from copper wire with a bronze patina.
Viking knitting is an ancient craft used for fashioning jewellery from finely-drawn metal wires.
This necklace is two lengths of plain knitting with decorated cone end caps and a central portion with a large round silver-cored glass bead flanked by arrangements of round silver metal beads and flat silver metal nuggets. Go to the second picture on the image carousel for a closer look at this.
The necklace is finished with a silver metal scroll pattern clasp - you can see a detailed picture of this if you look on the image carousel. It's the third picture.
The necklace measures 46cm (18 inches).
Examples of this technique have been found in archaeological sites in Scandinavia and also in the British Isles. Many of these date back to at least the 9th and 10th centuries, the time of the Viking settlements in Britain.
