Day of the Dead Sugar Skull Goblet
£26.90
A fabulous goblet with stunningly detailed Day of the Dead decoration.
From the dark imagination of famous artist James Ryman, this striking goblet is new for 2017 and a fantastic addition to any kitchen. The stem and base are both black with a pattern of white bones running along them, with roses entwined around them on a black vine. The body of the goblet has two faces alternating – one, a young woman with red eyes, her face made up to look like a skull in the manner of the mexican Dia de los Muertos. The other, an actual skull, the eyes filled with flowers. Both are surrounded by roses.
Reminiscent of the work of Diego Riviera or José Posada, this goblet is cast in the finest resin before being carefully hand-painted. Comes with a dishwasher-safe stainless steel insert for ease of cleaning.
If you look on the image carousel, there are lots of pictures of this from varios angles, so you can see how beautifully made and finished it is.
The item is 18cm (7 inches) tall.
The origins of Dia de los Muertos in Mexico date to the time before the Conquistadors, and reflect on the concepts of death and afterlife in the Olmec, Toltec, Maya, and especially Aztec cultures; yet it is today a Christian holiday synthesized with traditional beliefs.
