Vessel of the Deep Steampunk Octopus Goblet
£27.89
A fabulous goblet made from cast resin and hand decorated, the goblet is finished in rich metallics - coppers, silvers and bronzes - and wonderful patination.
The bowl of the goblet is in the from of a bathysphere, an old-fashioned spherical deep-sea submersible, and a giant octopus, upward-reaching tentacles threatening to engulf the submarine, forms the stem and the base.
Detailed photographs of this from all angles can be found on the image carousel.
The goblet has a stainless steel lining which can be removed for cleaning.
The goblet is 19.5cm (7 and 3/4 inches) tall.
Jules Verne's classic science fiction novel, "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" has very much influenced the Steampunk movement. It tells the stort of Captain Nemo and his futuristic submarine, the Nautilus. In the course of the book, Nemo and the crew encounter and have to fight off several giant octopuses, and it's likely that it's because of this connection that the octopus is such a classic trope within Steampunk.
